Uploading and Analyzing Files
Upload documents to ISMS Copilot for analysis, review, and compliance guidance. The AI can analyze policies, risk assessments, audit reports, and other compliance documents.
Supported File Types
Upload these file formats:
Documents
PDF - PDF documents (.pdf)
Word - Microsoft Word (.doc, .docx)
Spreadsheets
Excel - Microsoft Excel (.xls, .xlsx)
Data Files
CSV - Comma-separated values (.csv)
JSON - JSON data (.json)
Text
Plain Text - Text documents (.txt)
Note: Image files, videos, audio files, and executable files are not supported.
File Size Limits
Maximum file size: 10 MB per file
If you have a larger file, consider:
Splitting the document into smaller parts
Removing images or large tables to reduce file size
Converting PDF to text format
Uploading a File
Method 1: Click to Upload
Click the paperclip icon (📎) in the chat input area
Your computer's file browser opens
Select the file you want to upload
Click Open
Method 2: Drag and Drop
Open your file manager or locate the file on your desktop
Drag the file over the ISMS Copilot window
A drop zone appears with the message: "Drop your file anywhere"
Release the file to upload
You can drag and drop anywhere on the page—you don't need to target a specific area.
Upload Progress
As your file uploads, you'll see:
Uploading State (Blue Box):
Upload icon (animated)
Filename
"Uploading... (512KB)" - showing the file size
Progress bar showing upload progress
Complete State (Green Box):
File icon
Filename
"Uploaded • 512KB" - showing file size
X button to remove the file before sending
When the file is green, it's ready to be sent with your message.
Sending Your Message with Files
Upload your file (it appears in a green box)
Type your question about the file in the input field
Click Send (arrow button) or press Enter
Your file is sent along with your message
Example: Upload your information security policy and ask: "Review this policy for ISO 27001 compliance gaps"
Removing a File
Before sending, you can remove a file:
Click the X button on the green file box
The file is removed from the upload area
Upload a different file if needed
Once you click Send, the files are sent with your message and cannot be removed.
One File at a Time
ISMS Copilot processes one file per message.
You cannot upload multiple files simultaneously
Wait for the first file to complete (green box) before uploading another
If you need to send another file, send your first message and then upload the next file
Common error: "Please upload one file at a time" - Wait for the current file to finish before selecting another.
Error Messages
File Too Large
Message: "File 'filename.pdf' is too large (15MB). Maximum size allowed is 10MB."
Solution: Compress the file or split it into smaller parts.
Unsupported File Type
Message: "Unsupported file type. Please upload TXT, CSV, JSON, PDF, DOC, DOCX, XLS, or XLSX files."
Solution: Convert the file to a supported format or try a different file.
File Already Uploaded
Message: "File 'filename.pdf' is already uploaded for this message"
Solution: Remove the existing file by clicking the X button, or ask a follow-up question in a new message.
Failed to Upload
Message: "Failed to upload file"
Try:
Check your internet connection
Verify the file type is supported
Check the file isn't corrupted
Try uploading a different file
What Happens After Upload
File is stored securely in your account
Content is extracted from the file in the background
AI analyzes the content to provide insights or recommendations
Response includes file-specific guidance based on your question

Policy Review
Upload your current security policy and ask:
"Review this policy for ISO 27001 compliance"
"Suggest improvements to our access control policy"
"Is this policy compliant with SOC 2?"
Gap Analysis
Upload your risk assessment or compliance checklist:
"Perform a gap analysis against ISO 27001 Annex A controls"
"What GDPR requirements are missing from this assessment?"
Audit Preparation
Upload audit reports or evidence documents:
"Help me prepare supporting evidence for these audit findings"
"Review this control evidence for SOC 2 compliance"
Document Improvement
Upload existing procedures or policies:
"Improve the clarity and completeness of this procedure"
"Suggest additions to this incident response procedure"
Tips for Best Results
Be specific in your question. Instead of just uploading a file and asking "Review this," say "Review this policy for GDPR Article 32 compliance and suggest improvements."
Use searchable PDFs - Scanned/image PDFs may not be readable
Clean up formatting - Remove unnecessary headers, footers, and images if file is large
Provide context - Tell the AI your industry, company size, and compliance needs
Ask follow-ups - Ask clarifying questions about the analysis
Privacy and Security
Your files are private - Only you can see files you upload
Encrypted storage - Files are stored securely
No data training - Your files are not used to train the AI
Data control - You control how long files are retained through account settings
